Well, that took a couple of turns.

If you watched the Oscars last night, you might have been a bit like me - completely thrown off by some of the Academy's picks this year. There were a ton of surprises, and I anticipated a couple of them, but I really whiffed it in a lot of the major categories. It totally threw off my whole ballot!

What saved me was the tech awards, and amazingly, the short film awards - those are the toughest to get right and I nailed all three of them. All in all, I got 16 out of 24 right, so 2/3 is still pretty good. Here's my full predictions list and what I got right and wrong last night.

BEST PICTURE - Roma - WRONG! The winner was Green Book.

BEST ACTOR - Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody - Right!

BEST ACTRESS - Glenn Close, The Wife - WRONG! The winner was Olivia Colman for The Favourite, who was delightful by the way.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Mahershala Ali, Green Book - Right!

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Regina King, If Beale Street Could Talk - Right!

BEST DIRECTOR - Spike Lee, BlackKklansman (this is a coin toss - if it's not him, it'll be Alfonso Cuaron for Roma) - WRONG! I hedged my bets with this one, and I shouldn't have - Cuaron ended up taking it.

BEST DOCUMENTARY - RBG - WRONG! I figured they'd go with the political choice, but the winner was Free Solo, which is great and a well-deserving winner.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - The Favourite - WRONG! Even though it should have won. Green Book took this category.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Can You Ever Forgive Me? - WRONG! Glad to be wrong about this one. BlackKklansman took it, giving Spike Lee his first Oscar and his big hug with Samuel L. Jackson was the highlight of the night.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse - Right!

BEST FILM EDITING - BlackKklansman - WRONG! This went to Bohemian Rhapsody, which is insane.

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN - Black Panther - Right!

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS - First Man - Right!

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE - If Beale Street Could Talk - WRONG! I figured the best score would win out, but this instead went to Black Panther, which is also a great score so I can't complain.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG - "Shallow" from A Star is Born - Right! And the performance during the show was amazing.

BEST SOUND MIXING - Bohemian Rhapsody - Right!

BEST SOUND EDITING - Bohemian Rhapsody - Right!

BEST COSTUME DESIGN - The Favourite - WRONG! This was a much-deserved win for Black Panther.

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT - Period. End of Sentence. - Right!
