Personally, I like to follow a lot of fellow "adventure loving" people on Instagram, because seeing breathtaking photos of incredible places is my favorite work day distraction! But recently, one location tag kept popping up. And that location tag read: Glacier National Park.

Now I don't know about you, but I sometimes forget how lucky we are to live within a reasonable driving distance from one of the most epic national parks in the world! So I pulled myself together and planned a Glacier day-trip with my friend Lauren.

And what a trip it was!

My friends at Bob Wards hooked us up with some sweet snowshoes, and I also rented a pair of cross country skis (Yes, you can rent cross country skis at Bob Wards!) and we set off on one of the best adventures I've had all winter.

In case you didn't know, GNP is open and free to the public during the winter months. But the majority of roads and shops remain closed due to the fact that they are buried under about 10 feet of snow. So that means your main option is to take the main road, going through West Glacier, all the way to the Lake McDonald Lodge.

From there, you can chose from a couple of snowshoeing and cross country skiing trails, or simply get that Insta-worthy snap by the water or lodge.

Glacier National Park

Going into the weekend, Lauren and I went back and forth on whether or not we'd need/want snowshoes. Thankfully my boys at Bob Wards talked us into getting them, because they helped make our Glacier trip what it was... magical!

Even with the trails packed down from use, we were still snowshoeing on top of anywhere between 2 to 4 feet of snow. Plus, while the sunshine and clear blue skies were warm and wonderful, they made for a very slushy trek in more than a few places. So unless you want to spend your day walking a couple of paces and then falling (most-likely face first) into snow slush every couple of seconds, snowshoes are a must!

They always say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I took about a million snaps while we were there, and I still don't think any of them do that day justice. Lauren and I must have used the phrase "How is this place even real?!" a hundred times, and there were a few moments/views that almost brought me to tears.

I used to think that Glacier National Park was my favorite place on earth during the summer months, but after our trip last weekend, a sunny winter day at Lake McDonald is making me reconsider.

Winnie the Pooh said it best, "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." That "something" for me is Glacier, and it's ours forever and always! Cheers!

For the record, I am endorsed by Bob Wards here in Missoula and we have an awesome business partnership together. Everything I write about Bob Wards and their products that they pay for me to use is based on my personal experience.
