Ravalli County Man Arrested with Homemade Explosive Device
35 year-old Nicholas Armidon was arrested by Ravalli County Sheriff’s deputies early Tuesday morning at the Budget Inn in Darby after they located what appeared to be a home made explosive device in his motel room.
He was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant from another offense.
After Armidon requested that deputies retrieve his personal belongings from the room, they discovered the device and immediately evacuated the entire motel. Approximately 12 people were relocated.
Explosives experts from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office and the explosives canine with the National Institutes of Health police assisted in the search and in helping render the device safe.
Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton believes all the devices have been found and safely disposed. Holton thanked the personnel from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office and the NIH for their rapid assistance in the incident.
Armidon is currently in the Ravalli County Jail, charged with possession of a destructive device.
