Missoula Police Arrest Man for His Fourth DUI

At around 11:45 Wednesday night, a Missoula Police Officer saw a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign on Phillips Street. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but the vehicle sped up to about 40 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.

The officer turned on his top lights to try to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield and failed to stop at another stop sign on Scott Street. The vehicle eventually stopped and the driver stuck both hands out his window. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“An officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as 56-year-old Daniel Yarozeski,” Welsh said. “At the end of the investigation, Mr. Yarozeski was place under arrest for DUI. The officer subsequently learned that Mr. Yarozeski had at least three prior convictions.”

Court documents indicated that the defendant’s speech was so slurred that the officer found him difficult to understand. When asked if he had been drinking he stated something to the effect of “I drank a little.”

The defendant began to walk back to his truck as if he intended to enter it. The officer had to grab the defendant by the arm and escort him back to the patrol car. The officer said he needed to check the defendant’s sobriety, but the defendant stated, “I’m not doing any of your tests.”

The officer eventually transported the defendant to the police station. While at the station, the defendant abruptly and aggressively threw his elbow out and struck the officer.

The defendant was transported to St. Patrick Hospital where a blood draw was performed. He has three prior DUI convictions, making this one a felony offense.
