My dear friend and local photographer is putting together a showcase I wanted to share with you in case you'd like to participate, and to continue to bring attention to Montana's Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis. Jen is committed to doing her part to bring awareness, and continue the MMIW conversation by inviting the public to participate in a photo shoot.

The goal of this photo-series is to bring awareness at a more local level of the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, 2-Spirit, and Girls. As Indigenous women who have watched our community members disappear and their cases remain unsolved, we hope that this photo-series will heighten awareness so that we can work together as a community to bring our people back to their families.

If you would like to participate in the photo series, your picture will be added to the Facebook page, along with other information regarding MMIW, and hopefully included in galleries hosted by local businesses. Organizers will provide the red paint for the handprints and ask that all participants wear black to draw attention to the red. The next photoshoot will be on Saturday, February 20th at Fort Missoula, with each time slot limited to 15 minutes with pandemic safety protocols in place. Please message Jen on the MSO MMIW Photo Series Facebook page to book a time slot, and if you can encourage your elders (Yaya, aunties, mom, etc.) to participate, that would be helpful as the girls would like to have their age group represented as well. You can also see some example photos from the first photoshoot on the Facebook page, so you can get an idea of what it's all about.

If you are a local business owner who would like to host some of the photos to bring awareness to the community, please reach out to myself here at the radio station, angel@alternativemissoula.com or contact Jen on the Facebook page mentioned above.  Many thanks to the wonderful female business owners at Frame of Mind and The Sweat Shop Studio have already jumped on board.

Thank you for your support, we are looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition! Visit this website to learn more about the MMIW crisis, and what Montana law makers are doing about it.
