Have any Missoula Memories of Mount St. Helens?

I grew up in Seattle so I'm familiar with the story of Mount. St. Helens erupting in 1980. Not sure if it's good or bad, but I'm too young to remember any of it actually happening. But, every year when May 18th rolled around, there was no getting around the conversation about the eruption. Despite being a Washingtonian for so long, I'm still learning facts about that fateful day. As the CBS Sunday Morning video below states, the landslide that was triggered from the eruption is the largest in recorded history! It's also pretty crazy to think about another piece from the video where it mentions "1,500 feet of the mountain vaporized in seconds." Wow!

Seeing the stories today has me thinking about how brutal Mother Nature can be. I can't imagine witnessing an explosion like the on of Mount St. Helens forty years ago. I've felt a couple small earthquakes in my day, been caught in a tornado warning, and prepped for an oncoming hurricane that never really materialized. I think I'm alright with those experiences being the extent of my adventures.

As I was scrolling through social media today I saw a lot of people here in Missoula commenting on what they remember from the day Mount St. Helens blew its top. Were you living in Missoula or anywhere close back when it erupted in May of 1980? Do you remember anything about that day? I would love to hear your thoughts and memories.
