The Griz football team’s first game of the 2012 season is slated for Sept. 1 at home versus the University of South Dakota. Kick-off time will be announced at a later date.

Team outlook:

Montana is coming off of an impressive record for the 2011 season, in which they went 7-1 in conference play and 11-3 overall before going all the way to the Football Championship Subdivision semifinal. The Griz have a lot of work to do before September, including replacing 16 starters and adjusting to two coaching changes: Ty Gregorak became the team’s defensive coordinator Feb. 11 and offensive coordinator Timm Rosenbach was hired Feb. 22.

Spring scrimmages:

The team began spring practice March 19 and will play three scrimmages at Washington Grizzly Stadium in late March and April. The first is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, March 24 at around 10 a.m. The second scrimmage — the much-anticipated “Saturday Night Under The Lights” — will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 14. That game will mark the debut of the field’s newly constructed stadium lights. The final scrimmage of the spring season is set for Saturday, April 21 at a time to be determined.

Ticket outlets:

Tickets will be required for admission to the April 14 night game. They will be available for $5 at the Grizzly Scholarship Association Office in the Adams Center, Elbow Room, JCCS Certified Public Accountants locations statewide, MSO Hub, Paradise Falls, Press Box, Red's Bar, Silver Slipper, Southgate Mall, Stockman's Bar and Worden's Market. All proceeds from the game will benefit UM’s athletic facility improvement projects.
