Have you ever seen the movie "Cannonball Run?" It is a 40 year old movie that stars such greats as Burt Reynolds, Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin and even Jackie Chan. For those not familiar with the movie it is a movie about a wild and illegal cross country road race. Drivers pull any kind of dirty trick they can to be the first to cross the finish line. If you have never seen it, I would highly recommend it.

During the pandemic in 2020, drivers inspired by the classic movie, broke records for driving cross country. In fact the fastest time was broken 7 times in just 5 weeks last year. The current record from New York to LA is 25 hours 39 minutes. That's zipping along pretty quick.

The reason for bringing up such a classic movie and race is I because I couldn't help but take notice of a ton of vintage rally cars making their way down HWY 93 this morning. One by one, like some sort of high speed parade, vintage cars zipped south as I made my commute to work. I couldn't wait to get answers on what they might be doing. After a short investigation, I discovered the Going to the Sun Vintage Car Rally.

According to their website

The Going To The Sun Rally is a non-profit organization that hosts a five-day vintage car rally across Montana and sometimes into the neighboring Rocky Mountain West. The drive is one of beauty, friendship and philanthropy.

So not only are these people enjoying a beautiful road trip, but they are doing it all for charity.

The Rally is scheduled to make their way through Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Before returning to Missoula on Tuesday 9/21.
