This week, a Bitterroot National Forest road near Tepee Point in the Darby/Sula Ranger District will be closed to allow removal of beetle-killed ponderosa pine below the Tepee Point Lookout. Forest Road 5778 will be closed for a week, allowing heavy equipment into the area, where the stand has suffered 50 percent mortality from the mountain pine beetle outbreak of 2012-14. The work will completely block the road. Signs are posted at major intersections. Work should be completed by the weekend, officials report. There are alternative routes for forest users. For more information contact the Darby/Sula Ranger Station at (406) 821-3913.
