At around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Missoula Police officers were dispatched to a local motel in the 1000 block of East Broadway. According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, the officers went to check on a male who hadn’t been seen or heard from in some time.

“They were directed to a specific room by the complainant,” Welsh said. “The officers discovered a male and a female. In an attempt to identify both individuals, the female provided information that could not be verified. It was subsequently determined that she was providing false information. As the investigation continued, the woman did finally admit to her actual identity and admitted that she had a warrant out of Yellowstone County.”

The officers confirmed that information and the woman was taken into custody. The male was identified as the person of concern, but officers determined that he was alright and he stayed in the room.

“The woman was taken out to one of the patrol cars,” Welsh said. “At one point, she slipped one of her cuffs and attempted to run from the officers. They quickly handcuffed her and she was taken into custody again, but not without a brief struggle.”

Welsh says she was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center.

“She is currently being held on a felony escape charge, obstructing a peace officer, the original warrant from the other jurisdiction and resisting arrest,” Welsh said. “She was also held on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge that resulted from being in possession of items that had residue on the surface, which subsequently tested positive for narcotics.”

The woman was identified as 23-year-old Odessa Cottier. According to Welsh, the officer also discovered that Cottier had deposited a syringe that contained some sort of liquid in the patrol car she was traveling in. As a result, she was also arrested for felony tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
