At around 3:45 Thursday afternoon, Missoula police officers responded to the report of a suspicious male at an assisted living facility in the 2400 block of Mullan Road. The complaint knew this particular male had a criminal history and was concerned about his contact with one of their residents. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“The officers arrived and made contact with the male and the resident,” Welsh said. “The male was identified as 40-year-old Ross Habets. Mr. Habets was determined to be a probation absconder out of Cascade County and he was placed under arrest. During the course of his arrest, the officers recovered evidence that they believed may have contained contraband.”

According to Welsh, officers continued their investigation and additional criminal activity took place.

“At one point, a female who was with Habets, identified as 27-year-old Ellene Baker, grabbed the item of evidence and tossed it into their vehicle in an attempt to remove it from this scenario,” Welsh said. “Baker was place under arrest for tampering with evidence. The item was recovered and found to contain a substance that was later determined to be methamphetamine.”

Habets is currently being held for his warrant and drug related charges. Baker was arrested for felony tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
