Montana News Team Samples the Creation of Apple Pie Hot Dogs
The Western Montana has officially begun! What better time to talk about crazy food concoctions than when the fair is up and running. It always amazes me what we'll pay to eat once it gets deep fried. I'll go for the occasional deep fried Snickers or Oreo at the fair - but that's it. Have you seen the deep fried sticks of butter? Or how about the ones where they're chicken sandwiches or burgers that use donuts for buns.....that's just crazy!
This one doesn't come from the fair, but it's another food combo that might have you raising an eyebrow. Are you ready to try an apple pie hot dog? I know, right?
A bit of backstory: remember the baseball game that was supposed to happen at the "Field of Dreams" site last year. It didn't happen because of the pandemic but it was rescheduled for this year. And with the game scheduled for this week (8/12,) Guy Fieri is doing what he does - taking us to Flavortown with a new creation to mark the occasion.
The apple pie hotdog consists of a hotdog, covered in bacon jam and apple pie filling, inside of a flakey rectangle-shaped pie crust, with apple mustard, brown sugar, and apple pie spice. Mmmm, America's favorites - baseball, hotdogs, and apple pie!
What do you think? Does it sound good? On one hand I'm thinking no way - that's just nasty with a hot dog in the mix. And on the other hand, I feel like the apple pie is going to carry the flavor and I wouldn't even know there's a hotdog in there.
I think I'll sit this one out - but one Montana news crew decided to give it a try.....or SOME of them did. It looks like the reviews were mixed. Would you give it a go?
