Just before midnight on Wednesday, a Missoula Police Officer was driving through a parking lot in the 700 block of East Broadway. The officer recognized and identified a vehicle that belonged to a known wanted person. The officer requested back up and began an investigation at a nearby hotel. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“The officer made contact with employees inside and learned that the wanted suspect had been seen in the area with another male who was located and identified,” Welsh said. “The officers went to a room associated with the duo and made contact with a third male and two females.”

According to Welsh, officers also discovered that the third male was on felony probation. He was identified as 20-year-old Caleb Diamond.

“They contacted his probation officer who requested that he, his belongings, the motel room, and the associated vehicle be searched,” Welsh said. “Diamond was found to be in possession of drugs that included methamphetamine, marijuana, and another substance that is believed to be cocaine. The wanted male was not located on scene and the other persons were released without charging.”

According to court documents, officers discovered that Diamond was in possession of a black suitcase. Diamond told officers that he had drugs on him and that there was a firearm in the luggage. Within lock boxes in the suitcase, the officer located a 9mm handgun and a handful of pills that were later identified as controlled substances.

Diamond was placed under arrest and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. He is currently being charged with two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
