Montana Toyota Drivers Warned 'Do Not Drive' in Urgent Recall

Montana drivers are known for keeping and driving their vehicles for longer than most. But having an older Toyota may put Montana drivers at risk.

A recent recall warns Toyota drivers that without immediate attention, an airbag defect could put drivers at risk of injury or even death.

In a press release, Toyota Motor Company shared the following about a voluntary recall:

To further urge owners to obtain an urgent and free safety recall repair, Toyota is issuing an immediate DO NOT DRIVE advisory for certain model year 2003-2004 Corolla, 2003-2004 Corolla Matrix, and model year 2004-2005 RAV4 vehicles in the United States involved in the Takata airbag recalls. Approximately 50,000 vehicles are involved in this notice. -Toyota Motor Company

The press release further explains that if the airbags deploy incorrectly, "a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments" which is why it could cause injury or death.

Toyota Takata Airbag Recall: Affected Models

Though the most recent press release identified models of Corolla, Corolla Matrix, and Rav4 as part of the recall, the Takata recall has a full list of models that have been previously identified which includes:

Corolla 2003-2013
Matrix 2003-2013
Yaris (Hatchback) 2006-2011
Yaris (Sedan) 2007-2012
Sienna 2011-2014
4 Runner 2010-2016 (2016 Partial)
Tundra 2003-2006
Sequoia 2002-2007

There are also models of Lexus and Scion that are affected by the recall.

The good news is Toyota will fix the problem for free, whether it's a repair or a replacement. They also say they are contacting owners to let them know if the repair is necessary.
