Hamilton Winners in the Montana State Science Fair

With a bundle of individual winners, the Hamilton Middle School team took first place at the Montana State Science Fair this week at the University of Montana. Hamilton School Superintendent Tom Korst said 27 Hamilton students were entered the competition, which was conducted Monday and Tuesday at UM.

Individually, Korst said the students brought back 9 gold ribbons, 16 silver ribbons and 2 bronze ribbons. Peyton Haddock's project "Beetle-kill Wood: Changing Construction as We Know it," won two awards - Grand Award 8th Grade Physical 1st place and the Peterson Grand Award 8th Grade Physical Science. Also, 7th grader James Truax won first place for an energy-related project and 8th grader Derek Twardoski took second place in the same category. Em Courchesne won a Grand Award 7th grade Biological 2nd place, and Madison Kirkbride took a Grand Award 8th grade Biological 3rd place.

The young scientists competed in the Hamilton Science Fair earlier this year, where over 100 exhibits filled the Hamilton Middle School display area.
