Living in the future is weird. Two years ago my blender didn't work, now it still doesn't but it can create art and talk to me. I'll take it, but what I really wanted was a strawberry-banana smoothie.

For real though, it feels like AI tech is moving scary fast. I'm routinely stunned by the quality of AI art that I see on Instagram, it's incredibly detailed and beautiful at times. Then last week I saw screenshots of conversations between people and ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), an AI chatbot by the artificial-intelligence company OpenAI. It looked interesting, so I had to try it myself. Here's my conversation with ChatGPT about Montana:

I started with a softball as an attempt to shake the eerie feeling that my life had suddenly become a sci-fi movie. ChatGPT's well-written gestalt didn't really help, my jaw dropped at the accuracy and how quickly the message typed out in front of me. My next question was also on the topic of what makes Montana great, but more specific.

Then a much more important question occurred to me.

I was hoping ChatGPT would have a genius plan for me, but sadly no. Next I tested its knowledge of our history.

No wonder people are using this thing to cheat on essays. I was so impressed by this that next time I want to learn about something I might start with a conversation with ChatGPT. This AI is smart, frighteningly smart. So I had to ask the question that's been burning in my mind.

Oh, so AI overlords won't take over, but they will take my job. Oh well, I can still do stand-up comedy... at least until they make a robot that can hold a mic and make fart jokes too.
