On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., a Missoula Police officer was driving through a parking lot in the 3700 block of Brooks Street. According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, the officer observed a male that was acting suspiciously.

“He stopped, made contact with the male and identified him,” Welsh said. “Subsequent to that investigation, this male was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was identified as 27-year-old Braydon Elkins.”

Welsh says Elkins was transported to the Missoula County Jail and was booked for a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge.

“However, the officer was contacted later by jail staff and he was informed that Elkins had been observed leaving behind a substance in a room that was previously clean,” Welsh said. “They collected the substance under the suspicion that is was possibly narcotics. The officer collected the evidence and later determined that it was in fact heroin.”

As a result, Elkins now faces a felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs charge as well.
