Is winter really over? Corby Dickerson with the National Weather Service said it’s a bit presumptuous to say we’re done with winter.

"One thing we can say is that the El Niño forecast that had been so widely publicized early on last year has, by and large, come true, especially with how it has affected our winter," Dickerson said. "We were really fortunate late fall and early winter to get the snow that we did. It really helped us out with our snowpack."

Dickerson says charts indicate that although we may not have seen snow in the valley, Montana is running in the 80 to 90 percent range for a healthy snowpack.

"Looking at the long term perspective on things, we are anticipating the warm and relatively dry conditions to continue as El Niño forces that storm track for the larger perspective of Pacific storms much farther to the south," Dickerson said.

Dickerson said snow storms are likely to fall in the areas where the systems are passing through.
