The University of Montana Food Pantry is hosting a party to celebrate its one-year anniversary. Sarah Poole from the UM Food Pantry spoke to KGVO News about the upcoming event.

“Please join us on February 11 from noon to two in the University Center to celebrate our first anniversary party. We’ll have treats, coffee, and then we’ll have a silent auction, too, and that’s to help raise funds for the Food Pantry. If you’d like to donate food, you can always come visit us. We’re in the University Center in Room 119.”

The silent auction will features items from community partners, including Big Sky Breakout, Plonk, Logjam Presents, Bridge Pizza, and the Good Food Store.

All the funds raised from the event will go towards purchasing food for the pantry and for pantry maintenance.

The food pantry is also seeking donations for fruits or vegetables, granola bars, canned soups, and personal care items such as shampoo and conditioner. The pantry accepts game meat as well.

“The food pantry is located on campus and it is meant to serve students who are facing food insecurity, but also other community members who are in need of food or personal care products. It’s a wonderful resource for folks and we’re really proud of it.”

Poole says that the Food Pantry was used by over 500 students and community members last year. She told KGVO that the Food Pantry is trying to dispel the stigma associated with using on-campus resources.

The UM Food Pantry is open to anyone, whether at the University or in the general community. Its hours are Tuesday from 12 PM to 5 PM and Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
