On This Day 31 Years Ago, Missoula Got A Legendary TV Shout-Out
It is happening again.
You know, when I first moved to Missoula, I did so without knowing much about the town. Growing up in New York, the city just wasn't really on my radar. So whenever I hear a mention of Missoula in a movie or TV show now, I take a little extra notice, because of how rare that tends to be.
But how could I have forgotten Missoula's role in one of my all-time favorite TV series?
SPOILERS for Twin Peaks Season 2 Ahead!
Twin Peaks, the legendary mystery series created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, has been a favorite of mine for years. And today, November 10th, 2021, happens to be the 31-year-anniversary of one of the show's most iconic episodes, "Lonely Souls," when it finally reveals that Leland Palmer - while being possessed by BOB - was responsible for the death of his daughter, Laura.

And when we discover that information, Leland lashes out at Laura's cousin Maddy, who's visiting from - you guessed it - Missoula, Montana, which leads to one of the most incredible line deliveries ever from actor Ray Wise.
(Warning: the following clip contains violence.)
That was it for Maddy's time on Twin Peaks, as the next few episodes dealt with the fallout of her death and the chase for Leland Palmer. But Maddy being from Missoula is no coincidence - Missoula is actually the birthplace of Twin Peaks creator David Lynch.
Actually, it's been a while since I've watched the series - it might be time for a Twin Peaks rewatch. Remember: the owls are not what they seem.
