We’ve known for some time that True Detective Season 3 had largely taken a backseat to creator Nic Pizzolatto’s next HBO project, though few, if any details had emerged on that front. Now, it seems Pizzolatto’s propensity for bringing A-list stars to TV hasn’t cooled one bit, as Robert Downey Jr. may lead a new TV project, and one based on past Perry Mason plans at that.

There are literally dozens of us who miss HBO’s Duplass-fueled Togetherness, but don’t count the pair anywhere off the network just yet. Instead, they’re checking in again to a new anthology series dubbed Room 104, following the comings-and-goings of a solitary hotel room. So, American Duplass Story: Hotel, basically.

Few series exemplify HBO’s current struggle to launch major hits like Martin Scorsese’s Vinyl, to fall flat with such a wide range of top-tier talent, and have a Season 2 renewal rescinded by the network. Now, HBO boss Casey Bloys explains the difficult decision, noting “it would only move the needle a little bit.”

The low-maintenance production of Curb Your Enthusiasm offered hope that Larry David’s ninth season wouldn’t take too long to assemble, and things are looking good for 2017. HBO bosses believe Curb Season 9 will start shooting as early as this fall, while Larry David works out the potential returning cast.
