Warner Bros. has made plenty of decisions with its DC Cinematic Universe that don’t sit quite right with fans, but credit where credit is due, the casting of J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon is not one of them. Simmons  —  now available in a bulked up version 2.0  —  is one of our generation’s great character actors, the rare talent who can switch from utterly terrifying to kindly paternal in the blink of an eye. Since Batman looks to Gordon as both a hard-boiled police officer and a surrogate father figure, Simmons is the perfect addition to both the standalone Batman movie and the Justice League film.

Hard to believe, but production on Justice League, which doesn’t hit theaters until next fall, is already nearing an end — at least according to Zack Snyder, who shared a new photo revealing Batman’s latest costume upgrade. What, you didn’t really think Batman would make another on-screen appearance without getting a fancy new super-suit, did you?

Following Batman v Superman’s underwhelming box office, DC’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns was promoted to the position of creative head for WB’s DC Film franchise, overseeing the studio’s upcoming slate of comic-book movies. In addition to co-writing the new solo Batman film with Ben Affleck, Johns (who recently confirmed Joe Manganiello’s casting as DC villain Deathstroke) is heavily involved with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and in a new interview, the exec reveals how they’re making some adjustments to address complaints about Snyder’s Dawn of Justice.

Gotham Season 3 will be laying the Alice in Wonderland puns pretty thick by the arrival of the Mad Hatter, so we’d best get used to it now. Case in point, Season 3 becomes a “Mad City” in a new trailer for the September premiere, and a poster that goes through the looking glass. Crap, now we’re doing it.

Supergirl may have broken down the wall keeping major DC heroes like Superman off of TV, but despite recent rumors, no one from the Bat-family will be joining the Arrow-verse anytime soon. Executive producer Greg Berlanti shoots down recent speculation, as well that they’d even tried to bring Bruce Wayne to Star City.

Gotham seems about ready to abandon pretense of staying pre-Batman, but that shouldn’t necessarily diminish Season 3. Read for yourself, as the first official synopsis discloses not only the arrival of a young Mad Hatter, but also the creepy reasoning behind our aged-up Poison Ivy.

The movie spends nearly 30 story-free minutes with a Machiavellian bureaucrat while she sits in a restaurant discussing a top secret personnel file. Here is Deadshot, the world’s greatest assassin; this is Harley Quinn, the Joker’s psychotic girlfriend. Oh, and have you heard about Captain Boomerang? And on and on and on.

Gotham Season 3 production is well-underway, to the point we’ve seen Vicki Vale’s family and some serious monsters on city streets, and it seems the famed Court of Owls may already be making their presence known. A new production tease has Bruce facing some mysterious adversaries, one of which Comic-Con may already have introduced us to.

A new fan theory has emerged in recent months suggesting that Jared Leto’s version of The Joker in Suicide Squad is actually Jason Todd — a hypothesis that gained a little traction when it was revealed that the Robin suit featured in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice belonged to Todd. If you subscribe to this particular theory, then David Ayer has some disappointing news for you.

Has any one person meant as much to the DC Universe over the past 25 years than Bruce Timm? When the animator and TV producer co-created Batman: The Animated Series with Eric Radomski back in 1992, he and his team at Warner Bros. offered a fresh take on an iconic character, finding a balance between the breezy fun of the ’60s Batman and the darker Dark Knight of the ’70s and ’80s. Timm then went on to co-create one of the more entertaining versions of Superman in another animated series, debuting in 1996; and in 2001 he carried the lessons from those two shows into Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, which together comprise some of the best superhero television ever made.
