The Hamilton community continues to remember Robert A. Leonardi, a 9-year-old who was killed by a car last year. Robert's Run is a 5k and 1 Mile Run/Walk August 7th that is raising money for children's education and play.

Registration has already started online and the event starts with the 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. and the 1 mile run/walk at 9:30 a.m. that morning at the Hamilton High School parking lot. The route will take entrants along Kurtz Lane over to the RAL (Robert A. Leonardi) Trail , which starts on Golf Course Road in Robert's neighborhood and "sidehills" private property along Big Corral Road north to the East Side Highway (photo above). The race concludes at the Hamilton High School stadium. The race course is mainly paved surfaces, but the RAL Trail has dirt surfaces.

All ages are invited and "virtual" runs or walks are encouraged. Your race "bib" will be e-mailed to you upon registration. When you enter your virtual race results, you simply include a photo of that bib's number.

Funds from the Robert A. Leonardi Fund have already contributed to Daly Elementary Library books, including the Wings of Fire series; 3 tetherball courts and 2 basketball hoops on the Daly Elementary playground, a scoreboard in the Daly gym, 2 basketball hoops at the Hamilton Middle School playground and construction costs for the RAL Trail.

If you don't want to run, there will be "Play Like Robert" activities August 7 at the parking lot, including a dunk tank, Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department trucks, Smokey Bear and Sparky the Dog mascots, and refreshments. Registration for any of the activities, the runs or the Play Like Robert fun, is $29. More information is being updated on their Facebook page.
