Road Rage Incident Draws Felony Assault With a Weapon Charge – Man Held on $50,000 Bail [YouTube]

Austin Miles, 18, is in the Missoula County Jail on $50,000 bond facing a felony assault with a weapon charge after allegedly pulling a gun on a pedestrian and threatening to shoot him.

According to court records, Miles allegedly pulled a gun on a male victim on Thursday, October 1. The victim was crossing the street near Orange and Alder, when Miles, driving a small white passenger car, drove at him at a high rate of speed. He left the vehicle and brandished a collapsible baton, threatening the victim. When the victim refused to back down, Miles returned to the car and pulled out a silver semi-automatic handgun and threatened to shoot the victim. When a witness appeared, Miles got back in his vehicle and left the scene. The victim was able to identify Miles as his assailant in a line-up.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jason Marks asked substitute Justice of the Peace Ryan Phelan for bail of $50,000.

"Mr. Austin has a felony pending drug case in District Court that has a history of violations, including a violation of the pre-trial supervision program," Marks said. "Given the involvement of a handgun in the latest offense, the state ias requesting bond of $50,000."

Judge Phelan agreed, and remanded Miles back to jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 19.
