Pics: What’s the Status of the New Sub Shops Coming to Missoula?

Since I live over in the area - I'm out on N. Reserve quite a bit when it comes to running errands. And for that reason I've kept my eye on all the happenings of what's going on when it comes to food joints. Panera was a nice addition to the Target parking lot and it's provided a nice alternative to the typical fast food spots. I'm still waiting for some movement when it comes to Chick-Fil-A. The old Pier 1 Imports building is still sitting vacant where the popular chicken place is supposedly going to set up shop.

A couple other spots out on N. Reserve that are on the way include two sub sandwich places. Firehouse Subs is going into the new construction where Fuddruckers used to be. I'm pretty excited about that - Firehouse is probably my favorite place for subs. And Jersey Mike's Subs is taking the spot where Quiznos used to be. At least in that case one sub shop replacing another still leaves the opportunity to grab a sandwich and then head next door for dessert with Cold Stone.

The other day I was wondering how much longer the wait would be so I peeked into the window of the Jersey Mike's. And let's just say it doesn't appear that an opening is right around the corner!

Yep.....It looks like it'll be a while before Jersey Mike's is ready to open the doors. The inside is still pretty trashed with what looks like some of the stuff that was left behind from when it was Quiznos. There's a lot of work to be done - and it seems like it'll still be a pretty decent amount of time before that mess of a pile becomes a brand new dining area.

But what about Firehouse? They don't have to tear down anything in an old building and convert it to new. They were able to be part of a brand new building! That should mean they're getting pretty close to opening, right? Uh.....not quite.

Firehouse doesn't quite give off the same inside of a dumpster feel as Jersey Mike's does - but it's still a long way from being ready to serve delicious sandwiches.

I was hoping for a bit more promising news when I decided to peek in the windows of the two sub shops that are coming to town. But it looks like we'll play the waiting game for a while longer. What do you think? Will either make it open by the end of the year? Who do you think will open first?
