Montana State University in Bozeman maintained strong enrollment, even with the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a news release, MSU President Waded Cruzado said the fall student count is "stunningly strong." There are 16,249 students attending classes, including students taking courses remotely. There are three course modes - in person, remotely or blended (part classroom-part remote). The university's retention rate(freshmen returning for a second year) is at 78 percent, which is a record for the last 30 years. Graduate students number 2,009 which is 3 percent higher than last year.

Cruzado said, "I am humbled that so many students have chosen to pursue their dreams at Montana State, despite the uncertainty of the pandemic...MSU's success is truly a credit to MSU's faculty and staff, who have worked extraordinarily hard to make MSU a safe and welcoming campus this fall."
