Montana’s Internet is Slower Than Almost Every Other State in the US

According to a new study by HighSpeedInternet.com, Montana's internet download speed is slower than almost every single state in the US. We ranked number 49 out of 51 (the District of Columbia was included in the study, too).

Why is Montana's Internet Speed So Much Slower Than Other States?

The study ranked each state by how many households have access to download speeds of 25 megabits per second - in Montana, that number is roughly 69.8%.

For comparison, the state with the fastest internet in the entire country, Connecticut, had 98.7% of its households with access to speeds of 25 megabits per second.

And if you look at a lot of the states at the top of the study, many of them have one thing in common - smaller, densely populated areas. Connecticut was followed by the District of Columbia and Rhode Island on the list.

On the flip side, while Montana has a few major cities, there are large portions of the state that are pretty sparsely populated, with small towns and ranches taking up the majority of the space. That means that, while there may be decent wi-fi in Missoula or Bozeman, the rest of the state is likely dragging our average down.
