Witness the winged horror! Feel the sting of terror. Break out in hives of fear! Aw, forget it!

No science fiction nightmare harkening back to the 1950s "B" movie craze here. But 2.5 million bees will be arriving in Missoula Friday.

The annual delivery of bees to local beekeepers will take place at 10:00 a.m. this Friday, May 3 at the University of Montana Apiary, near the water tower at Fort Missoula. Nearly 100 local beekeepers who placed orders with Western Bee in Polson will take possession of 168 three-pound packages containing around 15,000 bees per pound, or about 2.5 million new bees and 168 honey bee queens. This annual delivery enables beekeepers to repopulate lost hives and provides start-up packages for for bee-ginners.

If you're curious, UM bee specialists and officers of the Bitterroot Beekeepers Club will be available to answer questions do demonstrations.
