A stolen vehicle was spotted by a Missoula Police Officer at around 1:20 a.m. on Friday morning near Mullan Road. According to Police Spokesman Travis Welsh, the officer decided to wait near the car and watch.

"The officer watched the vehicle until a male came out, retrieved something out of it and then walked away," Welsh said. "Turns out what he retrieved was a backpack the officer identified him and learned that he had an outstanding warrant. Upon a search it was discovered he was in possession of drugs, one of which turned out to be methamphetamine."

19-Year-old Tyler Stepleton was taken into custody on felony drug charges, but when the police officer returned to the stolen car, it was gone and other officers were called to be on the lookout.

"It was located traveling southbound on Reserve Street. A single female occupant was taken into custody and she has been Issued a citation for misdemeanor theft, due to the value of the vehicle and also for driving with a suspended driving license. She is identified as 31-year-old Raquel Mejia."

No one was charged with resisting arrest and no chase was involved. The theft of a vehicle was not charged as a felony, because the vehicle was not valued at over $1,500.
