Earlier this month we were spreading the word that the Missoula Greekfest would be taking place. We didn't have much more in the way of details and wondered how the festival would be presented this year with social distancing and COVID-19 restrictions. It seems those obstacles were too much to overcome. As 2020 continues to show us - all plans are soft and can change at any time.

The weekend of music, dancing, entertainment, food, kid zone, demos, vendors, raffles and more was scheduled to start today. But it looks like you'll have to find an alternate way to get your fill when it comes to gyros, pastries, dolmades, spanakopita, feta fries, lamb burgers and Greek coffee.

A note on the Missoula Greekfest Facebook page has the announcement that despite their best hopes, the festival will not be held this year. A serious bummer, but probably not a shock.

The post below was published on September 7.

Dear Missoula Greekfest fans, The festival's committee has cancelled this year's Greek Festival due to COVID-19 and Missoula County's rules & regulations pertaining to the virus.

We are anticipating the festival will be held during the same time next year. However, we will keep everyone updated as new plans to hold the 2021 festival progress.

We wish you all a healthy and safe transition into the new year.

-Missoula Greekfest Chair

The Greekfest better make sure to have more food than normal on hand next year. I plan to make up for lost time when it comes to filling my belly.
