A major fundraising event to benefit 301 Strong, the nonprofit organization that is raising funds for severely wounded Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Wade Palmer is scheduled for Saturday, May 4 at Neptune Aviation at the Missoula International Airport.

Missoula Sheriff’s Office Detective Mike Sunderland is helping to organize the event. Sunderland said he understands better than most the horrific costs that face the Palmer family for years to come.

“After the shooting, fellow law enforcement officers and I got together,” said Sunderland. “We’ve seen this before in other parts of the country and we know how expensive the recovery is going to be, so we need to put something together and raise as much money as we can for Trooper Palmer and his family.”

Sunderland said the evening event will feature a sit down prime rib dinner and a silent auction, among other events.

“The Montana Highway Patrol Honor Guard will present the flags,” he said. “We’ve got local singer and songwriter Shane Clouse who will be performing during dinner and throughout the event, but he will also be singing our National Anthem. Then, we have our Attorney General Tim Fox who will be our keynote speaker, and following that we’ll have a live auction.”

Sunderland said many different Missoula businesses and organizations have gone the extra mile to help the event come together, primarily Neptune Aviation.

There are only 700 tickets available, so those who wish to attend should purchase tickets early for the 301 Strong Benefit for Trooper Wade Palmer.
