Although Avengers: Endgame marks a kind of an ending for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, capping the studio’s first 11 years, Disney ain’t just gonna stop pumping out Marvel movies. In fact, not only will Marvel continue making movies, they’re now expanding even further into television. After Disney’s streaming service Disney+ launches in November, it will feature several new Marvel TV series, including Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston, Falcon and the Winter Soldier with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, and a show called WandaVision, featuring the combined adventures of Scarlet Witch and the Vision (Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany).

Marvel had previous made television series set in the MCU like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, and a slew of “Defenders” shows for Netflix. But the whole “interconnected universe” aspect in all cases was a bit of a letdown. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. featured a few minor MCU cameos, but largely stuck to its own thing. And after a few early allusions to the Battle of New York from The Avengers, there was basically no connection between Marvel’s Netflix shows and its movies.

In a new profile in Variety, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says these upcoming Disney+ shows will be different, promising they will seriously connect with their movies. His exact words:

These episodes will intersect with the movies in a very big way. It’s a totally new form of storytelling that we get to play with and explore.

Of course, Marvel (if not Feige himself) has made this exact promise before, and it hasn’t really turned out to be true. But perhaps this time, with Feige more involved and Disney+ obviously a big company priority, it will actually happen. Disney+ launches on November 12, 2019.
