At approximately 5:30 p.m. on February 6, 2022, a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper responded to a no injury crash involving a Ford pickup crashing into a black Chevy pickup near Harper’s Bridge. The trooper arrived on scene, located the Chevy pickup, and spoke to a male who witnessed the accident.

The witness reported that the Ford pulled in between the Chevy and another vehicle. He reported the Ford turned right and scraped the front right panel of the Chevy. The ford then drove down a small decline and became stuck.

The trooper saw the Ford pickup and observed a male driver, later identified as George Milford, and a female passenger. The Trooper noted there was a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage when Milford opened the driver’s side door and Milford’s eyes were bloodshot and watery.

The Trooper asked Milford what happened. According to court documents, Milford said he was “not sure” and said, “I came around, they were swinging down and around and I accidentally hit ‘em.” The Trooper asked if Milford had been drinking that day and Milford replied, “a whiskey and a beer, well a vodka and a beer.”

The Trooper then administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and Milford showed 6 out of 6 clues of impairment. At the end of this test, the Trooper asked Milford how much he had to drink and Milford replied, “throughout the day, maybe two shots and a beer.” Milford agreed to provide a breath test and provided a sample of .268.

The Trooper arrested Milford for driving under the influence and transported him to the Missoula County Detention Center. Milford has four prior DUI convictions. He is currently being charged with felony DUI, fourth or subsequent offense.
