Hamilton officials have downsized the allowed spectator limit at Friday's Hamilton High School Homecoming football game. The limit is now 500 people in the stands at the HHS football stadium. The school had been closed for one day this week, due to COVID-19 infection and contact tracing. And, countywide, the number of active COVID-19 cases has risen to its level so far in the pandemic this year. Those factors have led to the lower spectator limit. And, if you're going to the Hamilton-Whitefish football game, wear a mask.

Here's the school district statement:
Due to an overwhelming increase in new COVID-19 cases in Ravalli County, Hamilton School District will reduce Bronc Stadium capacity to 500 spectators for the Hamilton High School Homecoming football game on October 9th. Spectators will be admitted on a first come, first served basis.
The District is committed to holding the Homecoming game for the benefit of the team, their families and close friends. Therefore, we request that all non-essential spectators evaluate whether their attendance at this game is necessary. The District appreciates all of the Hamilton Community’s efforts to support our teams under such challenging circumstances.

Countywide, Ravalli County Public Health has reported 58 active cases, with nine people hospitalized with COVID-19. Thursday, 13 new cases were reported in the county. Friday morning, the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services reported the statewide total of over 700 new positive tests, the second time this week that the Montana daily total has surpassed the 700 case level. Other recent reports have also been over 500 daily cases. The spike in cases has caused concern at the Ravalli County Public Health department, due to the small staff size, in handling the increasing number of cases.
