The Legislature has passed a measure to update Montana's indecent exposure law and to include electronic transmission of images.

On two unanimous votes, the Senate passed Senate Bill 60 last week.

The proposal would prohibit people from exposing genitals or intimate parts to people who do not want to see them by any means, including electronic communication.

It also created the offense of indecent exposure to a minor under the age of 16 - if the offender is more than four years older.

A typical conviction carries a fine of up to $500 and up to six months in jail. Exposing to a minor carries at least four years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
