After we found out that Kelly Clarkson and P!nk would be joining forces at the 2017 American Music Awards, we couldn't wait for the two vocal powerhouses to share a stage. Tonight (November 19), the pop-rock titans opened the show with an emotionally charged, political cover performance of R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts," drawing a handful of tears from the crowd.

Images of the year's tragedies played in the background, which added more emotion to the room. At the end of a flawless performance, they hugged.

Before they performed, Jamie Fox, with his daughter by his side, gave a speech that aimed to instill faith into the crowd while thanking the first responders.

Not a bad way to kick off a night celebrating the best in American music.
