The City of Hamilton, which has always celebrated its tree-lined streets and has special tree plantings every Arbor Day, is going to take a closer look at the citywide forest with a new federal grant.

New Hamilton Parks Director Amy Fox secured a development grant for an Urban Forestry Program. It will designate about $10,000 in the next year for examination, pruning and general maintenance of the many varieties of trees in the city.

The Hamilton City Council selected councilperson Robin Pruitt as this year's council president. Pruitt will be busy this year - she recently became the director of the Hamilton Downtown Association. The council also selected council members to represent the city at various organizations and committees. Kristi Bielke will be on the planning board, Jenny West is on the zoning commission and Darwin Ernst will be on the North Hamilton Urban Renewal District advisory council.

The council approved City Zoning Board members Karen Hughes and Vivan Yang. Yang, Sue Smith, Darwin Ernst and Drew Blankenbaker were confirmed for 3-year terms on the Zoning Board of Adjustment. And the Planning board members Jeff Burrows and Chip Pigman were confirmed.

Hamilton's council meets every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Next week, January 11, will be a Committee of the Whole meeting and the following week will be a City Council meeting. The meetings are upstairs in the community room of City Hall on the 200 block of South 2nd Street. Mayor Dominic Farrenkopf presents a weekly mayor's report Thursday mornings on KLYQ's Bitterroot Morning newscast at 1240 AM Radio and www.klyq.com.
