Woman Returns to Missoula Shelter After Being Kicked Out, Destroys Property

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On February 26, 2024, a Missoula Police Department Officer was dispatched to a call at the Poverello Center involving 29-year-old Lily Sims. When the officer arrived, he spoke with a Poverello Center employee who stated Sims was currently on an “out” for a minimum of 30 days while a permanent trespass was being evaluated. The employee said Sims had previously assaulted another client of the shelter.  

On Monday, the employee reported that Sims returned to the shelter, ripped a plastic organizer off the wall, broke it, and then threw the broken pieces in the area. The employee also said Sims had been escalating her behavior and was not adhering to her requirement of not being at the shelter. The employee also reported that this was not the first instance of Sims disregarding her “out.”  

The employee said he asked Sims to leave, but she continued to escalate her behavior, leading to the property damage. He informed Sims if she did not leave, they would be forced to contact law enforcement. Sims continued to disregard their request and law enforcement was contacted.

The officer made contact with Sims and noted she was displaying the physical characteristics of an individual who was under the influence of narcotics. The officer advised Sims of her Miranda warning and she did not provide any notable statement. 

Sims was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. She is currently being charged with felony burglary.
