Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Average gas prices in Montana have now increased in 22 out of 26 weeks. Prices have increased three weeks in a row. Patrick De Haan is the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, and he provided the current numbers.

“Average gasoline prices in Montana have risen 4.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.28 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “Prices in Montana are 8.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 15.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.”

As of Monday morning, many stations in Missoula still had their prices set to around $3.31 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Montana was priced at $2.90 per gallon yesterday, while the most expensive was $4.09 per gallon.

Montana is currently ranked 11th in the U.S. when it comes to the average price of gas, which is the same spot as last week.

“The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.14 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “The national average is up 1.1 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 32.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 2.7 cents in the last week and stands at $3.68 per gallon.”

De Haan said falling prices are driven by easing tensions in the Middle East, just weeks after those same tensions had pushed prices higher.

"For motorists planning to hit the road for Independence Day, gas prices are expected to continue falling nearly coast to coast in the lead-up to July 4,” De Haan said. “Relief could expand as the holiday weekend approaches, with the national average on track to hit its lowest July 4 level since 2021 at $3.15 per gallon, we project. As long as tensions in the Middle East remain contained and the U.S. avoids a major hurricane, we could see the national average fall below $3 per gallon later this summer."
