
Woman Admits to Using Meth Before Driving in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 17, 2026, a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper was informed of a report of a moving violation at mile marker 126 on Interstate 90, in Missoula County. The 911 caller stated a black Toyota 4Runner was driving erratically, crossing the center line of the roadway, and crossing the fog line.
The trooper was positioned stationary in the median, near mile marker 109, and was watching for the reported vehicle. The trooper observed the vehicle and entered the roadway to follow it. The trooper immediately observed the vehicle cross the fog and lane dividing line multiple times. The trooper initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 106.
The trooper approached the vehicle and immediately noticed the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, and further observed that the driver’s speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot and watery. The driver presented her driver’s license, identifying herself as 37-year-old Holly Burland.

The trooper observed an open bag of marijuana products in the front of Burland’s vehicle. The trooper asked Burland to exit the vehicle, at which time Burland stated she had consumed marijuana edibles and methadone earlier in the day. The trooper observed that Burland was unsteady on her feet as well.
The trooper instructed Burland in the SFSTs and observed 6 out of 18 indicators of impairment. Burland was read the PAST Advisory, and she provided a PBT of 0.00%. Burland was placed under arrest and was read the Implied Consent Advisory. Burland consented to a blood draw.
During a search incident to arrest, the trooper discovered a metal tin with three white crystals hidden inside Burland’s bra. Burland admitted the crystals were methamphetamine and that she had consumed meth in the hours prior to driving. Burland was transported for the blood draw to be completed, prior to being transported to the detention center, where she was remanded.

According to court documents, Burland has two prior DUI convictions. She is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, DUI third offense, and unlawful possession of marijuana in a vehicle on the highway.
