Montana skiers weren't having the best reactions to a subtle April Fools' Prank yesterday, which was masterfully executed by a popular resort.

The post, which first appeared over the weekend, dangled the prospect of "summer skiing," which is the fondest dream of every skier who thinks a few months on Montana slopes isn't nearly enough.

However, a second look at the info gave a couple of obvious clues that still managed to go over most people's heads.

Is there summer skiing at Lookout Pass?

In a Facebook post, Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area had said extra skiing was coming because the resort had received "more than 400 inches of snow" along the Montana-Idaho border this season. The post said that was the "most snow in the inland northwest by a fair margin."

It went on to state, "We will be able to extend our season into the summer months thanks to our good snowpack and updated snow preservation methods!"

In fine print, it referred to "April 1st". The post generated dozens of disappointed comments.

Some followers just laughed along. Others, with laugh emojis, said, "it was actually kind of plausible."

Others were a little more cheesed off, saying, "That's not funny."

We should have known

Not only was the "April 1st" a giveaway, but the mention of "over 400 inches" wasn't anything unusual because Lookout has been hitting that total for the past few years.

Still plenty of fun at Lookout

In a post later Tuesday, the resort said, "all jokes aside", it's still snowing at Lookout and the season will continue right up to April 20th. There will be an uphill snowmobile race on April 25th and 25th, then the crew will transfer operations to get the "Route of the Hiawatha" ready for summer bike adventures.

Meanwhile, some people were also falling for similar reports of "summer skiing" at Red Lodge Mountain. The resort will be down from April 14th through the 17th, but plans to return for a final day of skiing on the 20th. Both resorts plan extensive summer adventure schedules.
