ESPN has described it as the toughest two minutes in sports. And you thought it was the Kentucky Derby!
The 2025 West Region Classic of the Firefighter Challenge Championship Series was just completed. And as they typically do in competitions like these, representatives of the Missoula Fire Department made their presence known.
The tells us that they had multiple competitors place in the top 3 of the Firefighter Challenge. In particular, Quinlan Roe, placed first in his division with a time so fast that he was automatically inducted into the Lion's Den, which is their Hall of Fame.
Our congratulations to Quinlan (pictured below with his dad, retired Captain Brad Roe, who has also competed and holds many records).

We also extend congratulations to Tyson Whalen, who placed third from Missoula Fire and to Dani Hicks, who placed second with Missoula Rural.

Quinlan Roe is the newest member of the LION’S DEN, with a time of 1:35.58. This prestigious honor recognizes outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves on the course by completing their full course run time under 1:40.00 as an Under-40 male.
Held at the Utah State Fairpark and Event Center in Salt Lake City, the competition is s open to any firefighter from around the world. All athletes vie for Overall Event bragging rights in many subcategories, however athletes in the West Region residing in Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming also vie for West Region titles and records.
This is the only annual event where these West Region titles and records can be earned. Winners will maintain their title(s) and record(s) until the next season’s regional event.
On a big stage like this or on the job, thank you and congratulations to our local heroes!
