Vinyl Dreams Come True: Robert Plant Visits Missoula Record Store
What a way to celebrate National Vinyl Record Day.
Missoula is a popular place for celebrities, but even so, it's not too often that a rock legend like Robert Plant is in Missoula. He and Allison Krauss returned to Missoula for a performance at the KettleHouse Amphitheater last week after they had to cancel their appearance at the last minute last summer due to an illness in the band.
But it looks like in addition to performing Plant squeezed in a quick visit to a local record store while he and Krauss were in town for their shows on the 8th and 9th.
The owners of Slant Street Records posted photos to their Instagram account of Robert Plant in their store, along with singer/songwriter JD McPherson.
In the post below you'll see Plant with the Winter in the Blood soundtrack. According to the post Plant "blessed" the album which contains his cover of "Nothing Takes the Place of You."
In another post Slant Street owners Mike and Colin posed with Plant and McPherson. They say that Mike had an album that got destroyed, and Plant left a sympathetic message on it with his signature, signing "Ouch" and then his name.
In a comment, they also complimented McPherson on his music taste saying, "...super cool dude. Picked out some great and obscure rockabilly 45s." Another comment said that Plant, "got some Cairo Record compilations...which are amazing. Full of great and hard to find soul and R&B."
Overwhelmingly, the audience response to the posts on Instagram used some variation on the word "cool" i.e. phrases like "This is way too cool", "So Cool", or "That is so damn cool."
With Pearl Jam, Tyler Childers, and P!NK all coming to Missoula in the next few weeks maybe we can all hope for more musician appearances around town.
