Hiking and camping in Montana can be an exciting and fun adventure. It can also be dangerous. The bears are awake and it it is time for us to once again be "bear aware", even if you are just camping in a designated campground. One of the tools that can be helpful when out in the woods is bear spray, but bear spray doesn't last forever. It can expire.

My daughter was heading out into the woods recently and asked for some bear spray. We gave her a canister. She looked at it and let us know it was expired. I had no idea that could even happen. It was something that I never paid attention to. It is something that could be incredibly important.

Dispose of you Canisters Responsibly Montana

If your bear spray is expired you will need to dispose of it properly. Do not incinerate or puncture the canister. Do not reuse your canister if it is empty. You can place the canister in the trash or recycle it, if that option is available. If the canister isn't empty you will need to contact your solid waste disposal agency and they can tell you what to do. Remember to be safe and be "bear aware" out there.
