There have been a lot of visitors in Missoula over the last week.

This has largely been inspired by the three epic concerts scheduled at Washington Grizzly Stadium: Pearl Jam, Tyler Childers, and P!nk.

After my cohost met several groups of people from out of town in the merch line at Pearl Jam last week, we asked our audience, "If you met someone visiting Missoula for one day, where would you tell them to go?" and got some classic Missoula responses:

  • Hike the M
  • Go to the Oxford
  • Walk the Kim Williams Trail
  • Stand in line for ice cream at Big Dipper on the Hip Strip
  • Try some of Missoula's food trucks
  • Ride the Carousel
  • Float the river

Our timing was perfect because a pair of special visitors were in Missoula last week who had the opportunity to see the best Missoula has to offer, and they came from Palmerston North, New Zealand, Missoula's sister city.

Missoula Has a Sister City in New Zealand

Missoula has two sister cities, one in Germany and one in New Zealand. Palmerston North, New Zealand celebrates "Missoula Day" on November 25, and there was something extra special this year.

They had a "Win a Trip to Missoula" contest which Ella and Nic from Palmerston North won and last week they cashed in on their prize.

If you were at the Pearl Jam concert you might have seen a couple riding around in a Pedi Cab...it was probably Ella and Nic. Take a look:

It looks like they were treated to an awesome day in Missoula and took part in some of the things our fellow Missoulians recommended. Highlights from their trip included visits to:

  • Missoula Public Library
  • Caras Park
  • Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
  • Draught Works
  • Miss Montana Museum of Mountain Flying.

They also met the Mayor, visited "Yellowstone" locations and went to the Pearl Jam concert. From the post, it sounds like it was a fantastic way to introduce them to Missoula.

Ella and Nic, we hope you enjoyed your stay and we'll echo Arts Missoula's thanks to everyone to helped make the visit possible.
