Over 100,000 Ford Trucks Recalled: Montana, What You Need to Know

2024 is starting with some bummer news if your pickup is a Ford and you bought it in the past couple of years.

My family is a Ford family. I remember riding around in my grandpa's Ford F-150 on my grandparents' ranch when I was a kid. We'd go fishing in the creek at the edge of the property and we'd drive over the bumpy, dirt road, overgrown with prairie grasses, our butts bouncing on the seat just a bit.

That same pickup pulled a fifth wheel to Alaska when my grandparents took my brother and me on a 3-week long road trip. I remember sitting on the console between the two front seats when traffic was slow. They always told me to "get in the back" when traffic picked up (or they saw a cop). I love those memories.

My dad had a 1994 Ford F-150 in bright, Easter egg green, but nobody in our family has a pickup anymore. If you or your loved ones drive a Ford pickup, here's what you need to know.

Ford Recall January 2024

Multiple news outlets are reporting that Ford is recalling F-150s. In a letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, they acknowledged the safety recall from Ford Motor Company that could affect the rear axle hub.

Vehicles Affected: 2021 - 2023 F-150 vehicles

Number of Vehicles Affected: approximately 113,000

The letter describes the problem:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2023 F-150 vehicles equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy duty axle with a 3/4 float axle design. The rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, which can result in damage to the axle hub splines.  - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

 

How to Check if Your Ford Is in the Recall

Ford's support page has a place to search for current recalls. You will need your Ford vehicle VIN to confirm if the issue affects your vehicle specifically. If you're not sure where to find your VIN, Ford says you can usually find it in the doorjamb on the driver's side, the windshield or in the vehicle documentation.
