According to the publication's list of the best French restaurants in every state, Montana's top honor goes to Brasserie Porte Rouge in downtown Missoula. 

I've had the chance to eat there several times, and it's easy to see why it earned the recognition.

If you've never been, the steak frites is a must-try. It's a simple French classic, steak served alongside crispy fries, but Brasserie Porte Rouge does it exceptionally well. Their menu also features plenty of other French-inspired dishes that make it worth coming back again and again.

The last time I visited, I ordered the French onion soup, and we started with an order of mussels. Both were outstanding.

Another reason the restaurant has earned such a loyal following is its kitchen. The kitchen is led by a James Beard Award-nominated chef, and that attention to detail really shows up in every dish.

One thing that always makes me smile is seeing Miller High Life on the menu. After all, it's known as "The Champagne of Beers." It seems like the perfect tongue-in-cheek pairing for a French restaurant—while still keeping things a little bit Montana.
