This Is When Western Montana Ski Areas Will Open in 2022
Snow is here which means skiing and snowboarding adventures are not far behind! The focus lately has been on roads and plowing and safety and wrecks, but let's focus on the fun! When we get snow in the valleys that can also mean that the powder is beckoning us to hit the mountains for an adventure. For those who ski and board, it is time to listen to the mountains!
Get a job at a local ski resort!
This is a busy time for all the ski areas as they are preparing for the season. Most if not all of the ski areas that I contacted are hiring right now. Everything from lift operators, ski patrol, working in the lodges, it is a great time to get employed on a mountain. Every ski area is relying on Mother Nature to dictate when they open up, but there are some areas that have already set opening day. With the snow we have had it may even be sooner for some than what they have already announced. The best bet is to check websites or social media, and most of the areas now offer text updates on snow conditions. The conditions can change rapidly so the more ways to stay up to speed the better.
Lookout Pass
Lookout Pass Ski Area is looking at opening either November 12th or 18th, but with the amount of snow that just came through keep a look out for possibly this week!
Montana Snowbowl
Right now Snowbowl has December 17th as their planned opening day.
Whitefish Mountain
Whitefish Mountain has December 7th as their planned opening day.
Lost Trail
Lost Trail hasn't listed an official opening day yet, but that can change soon with the snow we have been getting recently.
Big Sky
Big Sky has their opening day listed as Thanksgiving day Thursday November 24th. A great way to spend the holiday!
Blacktail Mountain
Blacktail Mountain doesn't have an official opening day listed yet.
Discovery
Discovery doesn't have an official opening day listed yet either.
Even though a lot of the areas don't have an official opening day announced yet, they will all be opening soon so get those skis tuned or that board waxed and get ready to hit the slopes and don't forget your helmet!
