If you thought the mermaids bobbing along in the Sip ’n Dip Lounge were the strangest thing in Great Falls, that streak is officially over. There is now a hidden speakeasy called the Atomic Underground Lounge tucked below the O’Haire Motor Inn, and it’s literally built inside a fallout shelter.

Not themed like one. Not decorated to look like one. A real “walk through a gate with a fallout shelter sign and head downstairs” kind of place. And yeah… this is definitely one of those “you gotta see it to believe it” spots.

Feeling Like a Blast From the Past

This is not a front-door kind of bar. You park behind the O’Haire Inn, look for a random metal gate with a fallout shelter sign, and head down the stairs like you’re about to uncover government secrets. There’s even a camera you have to look into before they let you in, which makes you feel either important or like you’re about to be turned away for no reason at all.

They joke about a retina scanner, which honestly feels like something they’d add later just to fully commit to the bit. Either way, it’s not obvious, and that’s exactly why people are going to love it.

Inside Looks Like Your Grandma’s Basement… In a Good Way

Once you’re in, don’t expect anything modern. No seltzers. No trendy cocktails. Nothing from after 1977.

This place leans hard into the past, with classic drinks like Harvey Wallbangers and Grasshoppers, in a setting that feels like your grandma’s basement, if your grandma also had a fallout shelter and excellent taste in cocktails. It’s retro by design, and gives me a sense of the Jetsons meets Fallout.

Great Falls Now Has Two “You Gotta See This” Bars

Let’s be real, the Sip ’n Dip has held the “you need to see this place” title in Great Falls for decades. Mermaids swimming behind a tiki bar isn’t exactly an everyday experience. Now you’ve got a second stop downstairs.

A tiki bar upstairs. A bunker speakeasy downstairs. Never a dull moment at the O'Hare Motor Inn.
