Here’s Montana’s Best Places To Visit That Aren’t National Parks.
When visiting Montana, there are certain places people want to see. The state is filled with all kinds of outdoor beauty, and while most folks visit in the summer, Montana is open all year round.
Of course, the two most popular places to see are Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. The two locations bring in millions of visitors each year, but what if you don't want to deal with the crowds or National Parks aren't your thing? What do you do then?
Luckily, we have a few options here in Montana.
Bozeman
Recently named by Time Magazine as one of the most beautiful places on earth, the Bozeman area has a lot to offer. If you fancy yourself an outdoors person and would like to spend time fishing, floating, or hiking, you will certainly find several opportunities in the area. Or, if you just enjoy fantastic cuisine, cool museums, and great shopping you will find all of that in Bozeman.
Flathead Lake
One of the most popular summer destinations in the Treasure State is Flathead Lake. The lake, which is the biggest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River is frequented by not only tourists but locals as well. Whether it's boating, skiing, fishing, or swimming, Flathead Lake is a great place to spend some time while in Montana.
Missoula
Known as the Garden City, Missoula has a whole lot to offer those coming to Big Sky Country. Not only is there much to do and see throughout the Bitterroot Valley, but Missoula has a vibrant downtown area with great restaurants and several different breweries. Plus, just outside of the city is the Kettlehouse Amphitheater which not only offers stunning views, but some of the biggest names in music.
Virginia City
For those who enjoy history, Virginia City is a must. Considered by many to be the oldest town in the state, Virginia City is a wonderful place to spend time with or without your family. Whether you are looking to pose for an "old fashioned" photo, do a little panning for gold, or visit the restored Nevada City village just down the road, you are sure to enjoy yourself. Not to mention there are some fantastic places to grab food, drinks, and snacks.
Of course, these are just a few of the places that Montana has to offer. The truth is, you will find a whole lot of charm throughout the state. It's a place that not only offers scenic views but it's a place that offers small-town life that's hard to find in most other places.
There's a reason it's the Last Best Place.
